My Chiffon Love

Spring is pretty much here, and summer is fast approaching and I have been falling in love with a new fabric- Chiffon. Oh my goodness this fabric has ripped its way into my heart like a new pair of heels into a drag queens. So perfectly lightweight and it really gives off a kind of fairy fluttery look. I've been really enjoying a kind of midsummer's night dream, flower-y, floaty kind of look recently and this fits smack in the middle of that ideal. The dresses are usually super cute but I really am in love with the blouses made with this fabric.







 

I think it may have started back last summer when that Baby fashion show was circulating. I saw that one pink blouse with the princess sleeves and instantly fell in love with it. In fact, I think I was in love with almost all those looks! But that blouse especially got to me. If it wasn't so darn expensive I might have it by now! But alas, I don't. And I don't think I'll have the money for a good long time, given I have my sights set on a certain Jsk at the moment. But who is to say about the future? I may get enough money by my birthday to have it! Time will tell I guess. >u>






It's also a really good alternative to wearing a normal stuffy blouse if you wear gothic. A long sleeved black blouse will probably be much less hot if the air can circulate through it with a fabric like chiffon. It's really elegant too. The fabric really works with every single style! I'm in love. I actually got a chiffon blouse on a recent trip to my local Forever 21~! I haven't coordinated it yet, but I assure you that it's coming! Pics will come as soon as I have them! :>

Cooking in Frills~

As I've established if you've been watching my blog for any length of time, if not, Hi!, then you know I'm a lifestyle lolita. I want to wear lolita very frequently and do cute and fun things. This can lead to some conundrums and issues. Things like grocery shopping, exercising, cooking and so on. The cooking one has been a bit of a problem for me as well as probably any lolita who cooks. There's a high risk of stains, as well as the inelegance of it~ *eyeroll* But, there are easy ways around it as well as fun things to do when baking in lolita!

For one, you have to be careful with your safety in lolita. You need to make sure you don't close your dress in the oven door, as well as not getting batter on you. You have to be careful of heat, and making sure your whipped cream ring doesn't end up in the actual whipped cream! To keep things safe you should always be mindful of your dress and where it is. Keep doors closed, knives turned away, basic safety should cover you for the most part. Also, Always wear an apron!

Aprons are very important they are what stands between you and the stir fry on the stove.
I personally had an apron commissioned especially for cooking. It's become invaluable in the kitchen! If you want to get one then I would suggest getting one that is at least the length of the average dress and covers the bodice. It should, as well, encompass most of the skirt, meaning it shouldn't cut off half way around the skirt but cover around 2/3's of it.

Things you should avoid while cooking: Long sleeves, Heels, wigs, heavy makeup, really precious dresses (you never know what could go wrong!)
Maybe for some of you who are just getting into lolita....or cooking, or some of you who would just be interested I thought I would include some recipes!

Crepe Shells:
Combine 1 1/2 cups milk, 2 eggs, 1 tablespoon oil, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a bowl until blended. Heat a non stick 6 inch pan over medium heat.(Greased would work too but unfortunately it cause the batter to do weird things sometimes so I suggest non stick) Pour 1/4 cup batter into the pan. ( warning about this, you may need to fiddle with the heat to get it right, I usually do 5 or 4 but it all depends on how hot your stove is) It's ready when the top is no longer shiny and the edges are ever so slightly crunchy feeling. Do not flip, it's ready. This recipe makes a TON of crepe shells.
~You can fill them with tons of different stuff! Strawberries and whipped cream, Nutella and bananas, any assortment of fruits you want, ice cream, chocolate. It's pretty free to do whatever you want!

The Best Icing EVER:
Combine one stick of butter, 2 cups of confectioners sugar, 1 tsp of vanilla, and 1 1/2 Tablespoons milk in a bowl until it's completely mixed and fluffy.That's it. This stuff is amazing, literally one of the best icings I've ever made.
